Am 27. Juni 1924 wurde das Glückwunschlied Happy Birthday to You erstmals veröffentlicht
und wahrscheinlich wird deshalb jedes Jahr am 27. Juni der "Happy Birthday to you Day" gefeiert.
Wer hat Happy Birthday to You komponiert?
Musikwissenschaftler und Historiker gehen heute davon aus, dass die ursprüngliche Version des Liedes wohl von den beiden US-amerikanischen Schwestern Mildred J. Hill (1859–1916) und Patty Smith Hill (1868–1946) in Louisville, Kentucky stammt.
Diese hatten im Rahmen ihrer beruflichen Tätigkeit sowohl Melodie (Mildred als Erzieherin tätig) und Text (Patty als Leiterin der Einrichtung) als Begrüßungslied für den Louisville Experimental Kindergarten unter dem Namen Text Good Morning to All im Jahr 1893 publiziert.
Die heute bekannte Text-Version geht dann allerdings nicht auf die Hill-Schwestern, sondern auf den Textautor Robert H. Coleman zurück. Dieser hatte dem Lied eine zweite Strophe hinzugefügt und es am 27. Juni 1924 – allerdings ohne Zustimmung der Hill-Schwestern – publiziert.
On June 27, 1924, the congratulatory song Happy Birthday to You was first published
and probably that's why the "Happy Birthday to you Day" is celebrated every year on June 27th.
Who composed Happy Birthday to You?
Musicologists and historians now assume that the original version of the song probably came from the two American sisters Mildred J. Hill (1859-1916) and Patty Smith Hill (1868-1946) in Louisville, Kentucky.
As part of their professional activities, they published both the melody (Mildred as a teacher) and text (Patty as head of the institution) as a welcome song for the Louisville Experimental Kindergarten under the name Text Good Morning to All in 1893.
However, the text version known today does not go back to the Hill sisters, but to the lyricist Robert H. Coleman. He added a second verse to the song and published it on June 27, 1924 - but without the consent of the Hill sisters.
